COXSACKIE, N.Y., Oct. 28, 2021 — Hecate Energy, a leading developer, owner and operator of renewable power projects in the U.S., is pleased to announce the successful approval of its siting application for the planned Greene County Solar Facility. The landmark ruling from the state Board on Electric Generation Siting and the Environment came on Sept. 28, completing the project’s comprehensive, nearly four-year permitting process.

“We appreciate everyone who supported this important project and helped get to this major milestone,” said Alex Campbell, the project’s developer. “Successful renewable energy projects like this represent meaningful progress in our urgent race to address global climate change. The community can be proud it’s doing its part.”

Hecate Energy has previously offered a $4–6 million payment package to the community that will host the new solar farm.

“The Hecate Greene Solar Facility is a $50 million private infrastructure investment in the region — that means jobs, and it means providing funding for local governments as well as dedicated revenue for things like the local fire department, ambulance squad, and library,” said Campbell.

The project is projected to spark significant economic activity in Coxsackie, creating about 200 jobs during the permitting and construction phase as local firms and individuals are engaged for engineering, surveying, site preparation and construction. Local business typically thrives during similar construction projects due to the resulting local spending.

The process for siting and permitting Greene County Solar is governed by Article 10 of the Public Service Law, which provides for the review of new or modified electric generating facilities by the New York State Board on Electric Generation Siting and the Environment.

The Greene County Solar project is a 50-megawatt photovoltaic solar facility to be built in the southeast quadrant of the Town of Coxsackie in Greene County, New York. The 93,000 megawatt-hours of homegrown, emission-free, New York clean electricity per year it is expected to produce can power over 13,000 average-sized homes. It is estimated to offset over 50,500 tons of carbon dioxide per year, equivalent to taking over 9,700 cars off the road.
